THE REALITY OF ISLAM IN SUNDANE CULTURE

Abstract

The reality of Islam is closely related to the problem of mentality. In the cultural mentality of Sunda has two dimensions that one with the other interconnected. On the one hand the cultural mentality that comes from the ideals and hopes of the Sundanese as reflected in the oral tradition circulating among the Sundanese people. And on the other side of the cultural mentality as can be seen from the life of the Sundanese today. The first aspect, a mentality as a cultural spirit or a cultural value system, is illustrated by a number of societal trends in viewing life, about the goals and expectations of society. In Sunda this view of life is reflected in the value system revealed in "uga". Meanwhile, the mentality is reflected in patterns of social interaction, language, behavioral patterns that are crystallized in taboo and pamali.
